We’re incredibly excited to welcome acclaimed filmmaker and animation director Hisko Hulsing to Shortcutz Amsterdam on September 29, for a special screening of his latest short film, Danse Macabre.
Hisko is one of the Netherlands’ most distinctive animation filmmakers. He directed and production designed all 16 episodes of Amazon Prime’s acclaimed series Undone and created the animated sequences for Brett Morgen’s Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck. His award-winning films also include Junkyard and Seventeen.
His latest film, Danse Macabre, is an extraordinary passion project that Hisko carried with him for 11 years. The five-minute film was built around 79 original oil paintings, created by Hisko himself and brought to life with an international team of around 30 animators. Set to Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony, it premiered in competition at Annecy 2026.
He’ll join us to talk about the film, its exceptionally demanding creative process, and a career that has taken his unmistakable visual style from independent animation to major international productions.
