more than a film festival, more than a film platform, more than A NETWORKING PLACE
Shortcutz Amsterdam
Shortcutz Amsterdam is a platform dedicated to supporting and promoting emerging Dutch filmmakers.
Since its launch in 2013, Shortcutz Amsterdam has grown into an active meeting point for new film talent, established industry professionals, and audiences curious to discover the next generation of Dutch cinema. Through weekly events, awards, international exposure, and new-talent development initiatives, Shortcutz creates opportunities for filmmakers to showcase their work, build connections, and keep growing.
At the heart of Shortcutz Amsterdam are the Weekly Sessionz, where short films are screened to a live audience, followed by conversations with filmmakers and invited film professionals. These evenings give new directors, writers, editors, cinematographers, animators and documentary makers the chance to present their work, receive visibility, and engage directly with both audiences and industry guests.
But Shortcutz Amsterdam goes beyond weekly screenings.
Through initiatives such as the Shortcutz Amsterdam Annual Awards, the Audience Award, Amsterthem, and Greenlight, the platform continues to expand the ways in which it supports filmmakers and connects them to the wider industry. From celebrating outstanding short films to bringing Dutch work to international audiences to helping new voices take their next step, Shortcutz is built to champion talent in different stages of its journey.
What makes Shortcutz Amsterdam special is its focus on potential. We believe strong ideas, distinct voices, and cinematic courage matter just as much as resources or experience. That is why we are committed to creating space for filmmakers who are still building their path, including those coming from outside traditional industry routes.
For audiences, Shortcutz Amsterdam is a place to discover bold new films, encounter fresh perspectives, and experience Dutch cinema in a direct and personal way.
For filmmakers, it is a place to be seen, to connect, and to grow.
And yes, all of this still happens in a relaxed atmosphere, with a drink in hand and film conversations that continue long after the screening ends.
Shortcutz Network
Shortcutz Amsterdam is part of the wider Shortcutz Network, an international short film movement that connects cities, filmmakers and audiences across different countries.
Founded in Lisbon in 2010, the Shortcutz Network has developed into a global platform for the circulation of short films, creative exchange, and international collaboration. As part of this network, Shortcutz Amsterdam contributes to a broader dialogue around cinema, diversity, new talent and cultural exchange.
This international connection helps Dutch filmmakers reach new audiences beyond the Netherlands, while also bringing global energy and perspective into the local film community.
