We’re honoured to welcome director Morgan Knibbe to Shortcutz Amsterdam on October 14!
Knibbe’s debut feature Those Who Feel the Fire Burning (2014) was the Dutch submission for the Academy Awards, nominated for the main award at IDFA, and won two Golden Calves for Best Documentary Feature and Best Sound Design. His short Shipwreck (2014) won the Silver Leopard at Locarno, was nominated for a European Film Award, and earned two Oscar-qualifying prizes.
In 2019, he directed The Atomic Soldiers, released by The New York Times, which went viral worldwide and won both the Dutch Academy Award and the Dutch Director’s Guild Grand Prize.
Most recently, Knibbe’s new feature The Garden of Earthly Delights (2025) became the big winner at the Netherlands Film Festival, taking home four Golden Calves, including Best Director, Best Camera, Best Editing, and Best Sound Design.

Returning to the remote house of her childhood to help her mother, Caatje, move out, Emma is confronted with a long-buried past. A confrontation erupts over motherhood, loss, and the legacy of silence. Emma’s partner, Melle, tries to mediate but becomes entangled between two generations of women, each holding fast to their own truth. Tensions build toward a surreal climax where memory, trauma, and visions of the future blur into one.
