Every year we invite inspiring film personalities to deliver a speech to inspire the new generation to create more and better movies. It’s our way of trying to create an awards ceremony where everybody wins something, at the very least some inspiration.

The 7th Edition of the Shortcutz Amsterdam Annual Awards will be held on the 19th of January 2020, 20:00 at EYE 1, Amsterdam.

We also honour a role model who has been inspiring the new Dutch filmmakers and contributed to the prestige of Dutch cinema at home and abroad with the Shortcutz Career Award.

During the ceremony the winners of the categories: Best Film, Best Animation, Best Documentary and Best Experimental film will be screened during the event.

In this ceremony we award the best of Dutch short film, granting prizes in 10 categories chosen by our JURY:

  • Best Director,

  • Best Documentary,

  • Best Animation,

  • Best Experimental,

  • Best Screenplay,

  • Best Cinematography,

  • Best Editing,

  • Best Actress,

  • Best Actor,

  • and Best Film.

For the third time, Shortcutz Amsterdam will go international for the Audience Award. This Award is the audience's favourite film of our screenings made in December and January throughout the world with regional partners. The winner will also be announced at the ceremony.

Previous awards ceremonies have welcomed film personalities such as legendary actor Rutger Hauer; cult film director Béla Tarr, Peter Greenaway, Oscar-nominees Hany Abu-Assad and Paula van der Oest, actor Gijs Scholten van Aschat, actress Monic Hendrickx, director Martin Koolhoven, among many others.
